GEORGIAN STATUARY MARBLE ANTIQUE FIREPLACE SURROUND

Late eighteenth-century Georgian Statuary marble fireplace surround, the finely carved twin-handled classical urn of the central tablet with a band of Greek Key decoration, the frieze and jambs with convex flutes, topped by flower-head corner blockings. Restored.

  • An elegant antique fireplace of the late Georgian period whose design shares characteristics common to those of the Regency period design that succeeded it. The gentle curve to pilaster jambs and frieze is of note and the delicate flower-head roundels display the hand of a skilled carver.
