A handsome late Georgian or Regency period fireplace surround carved in delicate and lightly veined pencil veined Statuary marble, its shelf with bead mould above frieze and jambs composed of crisply executed fluted panels, the corner blocks with bull’s eye roundel in square frames.

A fireplace of simple rectilinear form which benefits from delicate use of shadow as means of embellishment; the fluted pilaster jambs, the deep carved applied convex roundels set within the corner-block panels and the delicately reeded shelf with its unusual mould to the top surface.
