  • This elegant fireplace surround is a particularly good example of a design typical to the early nineteenth-century Regency period, the mouldings throughout in well-carved and sharply defined 'Old English' Carrara Marble.

Carrara marble has enjoyed enduring popularity in a range of architectural and sculptural applications since being extensively quarried by the Romans some two thousand years ago. It’s predominantly composed of calcite which gives it its bright white colour, the grey veins a result of other mineral impurities.
